Coronavirus LIVE: 3,254 new cases were found in Maharashtra in the last 24hrs today; tally now 94,041
The total number of coronavirus cases in India has jumped to 276,583, while 7,745 people have died from the disease so far, showed data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday. Close to 6,000 recoveries pushed the total number of cured/discharged patients to 135,206. The count of active cases now stands at 133,632.
Raising alarm over a surge in the national capital lately and throwing residents into a tizzy, the Delhi government on Tuesday projected almost a 20-fold rise in Covid-19 cases in the city by July-end. After a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and other top officials, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia told reporters that estimates suggested 550,000 positive cases by July 31.
India’s recovery rate is said to be one of the best in the world. However, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that the COVID-19 pandemic is ‘worsening’ globally. It said that while the situation in Europe, which witnessed thousands of deaths due to coronavirus in past few months, is improving, American, South Asian and African nations are witnessing high number of cases daily. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said there are encouraging signs from several countries , but added that ‘complacency’ could be a big threat.

The global tally of coronavirus cases is 7,357,243, and 414,476 people have died from the disease so far.
